About Me

Hello. I am Geoff, and froodx.net is my personal site: the calm layer that sits above a much busier workshop of code, experiments, and half-built ideas. I build web things, I am fond of locally run AI that respects the people using it, and I genuinely try to know where my towel is.

The name says most of it. A frood is someone who is amazingly together and absolutely knows where their towel is. I am not claiming to have fully arrived, but I am pointed in that direction and travelling hopefully.

The number 42, the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything

Deep Thought spent seven and a half million years working out that the Answer is 42, then gently pointed out that nobody had ever known the actual Question. That is the spirit of this site: do the work properly, hold the result lightly, and keep a sense of humour about how little any of us truly knows.

What I am about

  • Trusted, locally run AI that keeps your memories and your soul.md files on your own machine, not someone else’s.
  • Data-driven web apps that are genuinely useful rather than merely impressive.
  • Tidy chaos: prototypes that are weird enough to be interesting and disciplined enough to ship.

Contact details

The Babel fish is wonderful, but email still works best across this particular bit of the galaxy.

If your message is urgent, kind, and free of Vogon poetry, it will reach the top of the pile considerably faster.

Resume

The towel, formally documented. What follows are the key highlights. The full structured account lives on the standalone Resume page, and there is a downloadable PDF if you would rather print it or pass it on.

Ford, Arthur, and Marvin: a small crew that got an improbable amount done

The short version

Data & AI Specialist with 25+ years across federal government, public-sector analytics, data architecture, business intelligence, CRM, software development and enterprise delivery — as developer, technical lead, delivery manager, solution architect, data architect and BI specialist.

My current focus is trusted local AI: RAG, private knowledge systems, document intelligence and workflow assistants that respect privacy, governance, organisational context and human judgement.

Career highlights

  • 25+ years spanning developer, delivery manager, solution architect, data architect and BI specialist roles.
  • Federal government data architecture across Health & Aged Care, Industry, Environment & Energy, Education and Agriculture portfolios.
  • Microsoft Consulting Services solution architect, including early Dynamics work with the product team in Redmond.
  • Telstra Business & Government delivery manager leading a 14-strong development team across superannuation CRM and data warehousing.
  • Independent since June 2025, building trusted local AI workflows, full-stack prototypes and this very site.

What I work with

  • Trusted AI: RAG, locally run models, document intelligence, vector search, LangChain / LangGraph, memory and identity files held on the user’s own machine.
  • Full-stack & web: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, JavaScript, Node.js, Astro, Markdown/MDX, Keystatic WebCMS, Docker, Cloudflare Pages.
  • Data & BI: Power BI, DAX, Azure Data Factory, SSIS/SSAS, dimensional and semantic modelling, metadata, governance and the Kimball bus matrix.
  • Architecture & delivery: enterprise, solution and data architecture, Agile Scrum, SAFe, PRINCE2, SDLC and DevOps.

Selected work

  • Friendly-AI (friendly-ai.net): a trusted, locally grounded AI life-planning platform.
  • Metacore (metacore.froodx.net): a data-driven web app framework built on FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
  • froodx.net: this site, an Astro build wired to a Keystatic CMS, hosted on Cloudflare.

The honest footnote

This page is a living document, edited through the site’s own CMS. Specific roles, dates, and references are available on request, supplied promptly and without a single line of Vogon verse.
