For All Drivers
Will Blazing Swan 2026 be cancelled because of the fuel issue happening in Western Australia?
The Blazing Swan Committee and Operations Team has been modelling different scenarios. The decision to cancel the Blazing Swan 2026 event is not a decision we will make lightly.
At the moment, Blazing Swan 2026 is going ahead as planned and our build team landed on site on Friday 13 March 2026 and are currently at work building our event infrastructure and burns.
What are the current fuel issues?
At the moment, ULP (unleaded petrol) has no issues in the area – supply is available. We have worked with local service stations to communicate the size of our event and the potential impact it could have in the area so as to help ensure suitable supply.
Diesel however is limited and, due to local demand/use, has the potential to run low or out of supply.
What are the safety concerns? Why are ULP and Diesel being treated differently?
ULP has a lower ignition or flash point than diesel – meaning it is easier to ignite ULP than diesel.
As ULP is widely available in the region we have assessed the need to store a higher risk.
Diesel is harder to get hold of in the region and is less of a fire risk – we have therefore assessed and been advised that we can allow diesel drivers to bring additional fuel with them.
Will Kulin have fuel available for me, when I arrive at or leave the Blazing Swan event site?
The fuel situation in Kulin, like many regional towns, is fragile and everchanging. As of 20 March, the Kulin petrol station is open from 8am to 5pm and has ULP available.
We recommend that drivers fill up with fuel before leaving the Perth metro area. If your vehicle has the capacity to complete a return trip on a full tank you shouldn’t have any issues.
If you have a ULP vehicle that cannot make the return trip without filling up you should ensure you fill your tank up along the way to and returning from the event. We suggest that you stop at multiple service stations to help spread the impact of our event, and to ensure you are not solely reliant on one service station to have fuel.
For safety reasons, we do not recommend you travel with unleaded fuel in jerry cans.
If you cannot complete the drive on a full tank and your vehicle is a diesel vehicle, we recommend you bring additional diesel with you in jerry cans.
Will I be able to fill up with fuel at other regional towns on my way to, or way home from the Blazing Swan event site?
We recommend that people fill up with fuel before leaving the Perth metro area. As you are driving through the regional areas, we recommend you fill up to a full tank whenever you can in case there is a fuel station that is not open or servicing customers.
As an organisation we will do our best to keep people up to date with fuel availability, but we also encourage you to be prepared.
What happens if I get to site, and I do not have enough fuel to get home?
We do not want anyone to be stranded on their way home from the Blazing Swan event site. It is your responsibility to get home safe. This is a very busy time of year and resources to assist you will be strained.
We encourage everyone to plan and have measures in place to mitigate this happening. Again, we suggest fuelling up at multiple service stations as you travel home, with small fuel ups across multiple service stations we can help ensure we lower our impact to the region.
Should you become stranded, we hope that a community member will be in a position to assist.
What are the closest fuel stations to Kulin?
Most Blazing Swan attendees are travelling from the Perth metro area to Kulin. The main petrol stations on that route are:
- Brookton Roadhouse
- BP Brookton
- Stumpys Gateway Roadhouse (also in Brookton)
- BP Pingelly
- Puma Corrigin Roadhouse
- 24 hours Fuel Kulin
Other nearby fuel stations for alternate routes include:
- BP, Ampol and Williams
- Ampol Narrogin and BP Narrogin
- BP Kondinin
We suggest considering driving less direct routes if you are concerned about fuel supply. Using alternative routes may have more fuel available.
Most shires and fuel stations have some kind of online presence so you can check fuel availability before travelling. You may be travelling from another location to Kulin and we advise you to check and plan your own route before driving to Kulin. And if you are checking – it may be worth sharing information with the community.
