Fuel Information for Blazing Swan 2026

Fuel Update 2 (Provided 20th March 2026)

Blazing Swan has been closely monitoring increasing fuel costs and fuel scarcity in regional towns and working with our contractors and our friends in Kulin to make plans for the Blazing Swan event.

Currently, the Kulin self-service petrol station is open from 8am to 5pm daily with ULP (petrol).

However, the diesel supply in Kulin and surrounding towns such as Corrigin still faces uncertainty.

Most regional petrol stations still have restrictions in place.

Attendees should still be able to plan their journey to get to and from Blazing Swan 2026.

We recommend:

  • Consider stopping at multiple service stations along the way to refuel. This will help spread the load in the area and if one service station does not have fuel you will not be caught short
  • Consider carpooling where possible – check out our rideshare Facebook group to meet others travelling to the event.
  • ULP drivers – Blazing Swan requests those travelling with unleaded fuel do not bring jerry cans to the event.
  • Diesel drivers – If you need to bring additional fuel with you we request you top up your tank to empty your jerry cans prior to entering Blazing Swan. More information and map below
  • If you are planning to bring diesel with you to Blazing Swan please refer to the information below.

Vehicles will be checked for ULP and turned away if this process is not followed.

Again, if you are concerned about attending Blazing Swan we are offering a full refund or deferred ticket to next year’s event.

We thank you for your assistance in helping creating a safe environment for us to build our Blazing Swan village.

New Information & Answers on Fuel

The following is new additional information that aims to answer questions raised by the community and provide key information.

Summary of Key Points:

  • ULP is currently available in the region, but fill up before leaving Perth
  • No ULP jerry cans allowed on site for vehicles – you will be turned away at the gate
  • Diesel is limited in the region – plan ahead and bring extra if needed. Limits and requirements whilst attending are detailed below.
  • Fuel up regularly at multiple stops on the way to and from the event
  • You are responsible for having enough fuel to get home safely

For All Drivers

Will Blazing Swan 2026 be cancelled because of the fuel issue happening in Western Australia?

The Blazing Swan Committee and Operations Team has been modelling different scenarios. The decision to cancel the Blazing Swan 2026 event is not a decision we will make lightly.

At the moment, Blazing Swan 2026 is going ahead as planned and our build team landed on site on Friday 13 March 2026 and are currently at work building our event infrastructure and burns.

What are the current fuel issues?

At the moment, ULP (unleaded petrol) has no issues in the area – supply is available. We have worked with local service stations to communicate the size of our event and the potential impact it could have in the area so as to help ensure suitable supply.

Diesel however is limited and, due to local demand/use, has the potential to run low or out of supply.

What are the safety concerns? Why are ULP and Diesel being treated differently?

ULP has a lower ignition or flash point than diesel – meaning it is easier to ignite ULP than diesel.

As ULP is widely available in the region we have assessed the need to store a higher risk.

Diesel is harder to get hold of in the region and is less of a fire risk – we have therefore assessed and been advised that we can allow diesel drivers to bring additional fuel with them.

Will Kulin have fuel available for me, when I arrive at or leave the Blazing Swan event site?

The fuel situation in Kulin, like many regional towns, is fragile and everchanging. As of 20 March, the Kulin petrol station is open from 8am to 5pm and has ULP available.

We recommend that drivers fill up with fuel before leaving the Perth metro area. If your vehicle has the capacity to complete a return trip on a full tank you shouldn’t have any issues.

If you have a ULP vehicle that cannot make the return trip without filling up you should ensure you fill your tank up along the way to and returning from the event. We suggest that you stop at multiple service stations to help spread the impact of our event, and to ensure you are not solely reliant on one service station to have fuel.

For safety reasons, we do not recommend you travel with unleaded fuel in jerry cans.

If you cannot complete the drive on a full tank and your vehicle is a diesel vehicle, we recommend you bring additional diesel with you in jerry cans.

Will I be able to fill up with fuel at other regional towns on my way to, or way home from the Blazing Swan event site?

We recommend that people fill up with fuel before leaving the Perth metro area. As you are driving through the regional areas, we recommend you fill up to a full tank whenever you can in case there is a fuel station that is not open or servicing customers.

As an organisation we will do our best to keep people up to date with fuel availability, but we also encourage you to be prepared.

What happens if I get to site, and I do not have enough fuel to get home?

We do not want anyone to be stranded on their way home from the Blazing Swan event site. It is your responsibility to get home safe. This is a very busy time of year and resources to assist you will be strained.

We encourage everyone to plan and have measures in place to mitigate this happening. Again, we suggest fuelling up at multiple service stations as you travel home, with small fuel ups across multiple service stations we can help ensure we lower our impact to the region.

Should you become stranded, we hope that a community member will be in a position to assist.

What are the closest fuel stations to Kulin?

Most Blazing Swan attendees are travelling from the Perth metro area to Kulin. The main petrol stations on that route are:

  • Brookton Roadhouse
  • BP Brookton
  • Stumpys Gateway Roadhouse (also in Brookton)
  • BP Pingelly
  • Puma Corrigin Roadhouse
  • 24 hours Fuel Kulin

Other nearby fuel stations for alternate routes include:

  • BP, Ampol and Williams
  • Ampol Narrogin and BP Narrogin
  • BP Kondinin

We suggest considering driving less direct routes if you are concerned about fuel supply. Using alternative routes may have more fuel available.

Most shires and fuel stations have some kind of online presence so you can check fuel availability before travelling. You may be travelling from another location to Kulin and we advise you to check and plan your own route before driving to Kulin. And if you are checking – it may be worth sharing information with the community.

For ULP / Petrol Drivers

Blazing Swan does not condone bringing fuel onto site with you for the purpose of refilling your car.

If you attempt to bring a jerry can with fuel contained within it, you will be refused entry, sent back to Kulin and asked to re-enter the event when your fuel container(s) are empty.

For Diesel Drivers

How can I refuel my Diesel vehicle?

For diesel drivers we have arranged a fuel refill area at the rear of the Kulin pool, in the gravel area. Participants carrying diesel can top up their cars prior to entering the event. Refueling should not take place at the Blazing Swan event location.

  • Entry is from the Kulin-Lake Grace Road
  • A designated area will be marked in the area for people to stop and refill
  • Please use the designated gravel area rather than bitumen surfaces. This helps protect and preserve the condition of the paved areas.

How do I safely carry and store diesel fuel?

If you are carrying and storing diesel fuel, we request the following:

  • Before transporting diesel fuel:
    • Ensure diesel containers are in good condition, sealed tightly and not leaking.
    • Only transport containers that are properly packaged and undamaged.
    • Always store diesel, or other fuels in containers specifically designed for fuel, usually labelled “UN approved” or “flammable liquids.”
    • Never use glass bottles, milk containers, or makeshift containers.
  • Ensure ventilation
    • Transport containers where air can circulate, such as on a ute tray, trailer or roof rack.
    • If they must be inside the vehicle, keep windows open to allow ventilation.
  • Keep different chemicals separate
    • Store diesel, LP gas and chemicals separately to prevent dangerous reactions.
    • Also keep chemicals away from food and other goods.
  • Secure containers to prevent leaks
    • Tie down or secure containers upright so they cannot tip or move during transport.
    • Protect them from damage by heavy or sharp objects, sun exposure, wind, and water.
  • Store in a safe way
    • Do not smoke or use ignition sources near the vehicle if transporting fuel or chemicals.
    • When you arrive, remove empty containers from the vehicle promptly and park away from activities like welding or grinding.
    • Store fuel away from sparks, open flames, heaters, and electrical equipment.

If I’m bringing diesel into Blazing Swan, what are my requirements at Blazing Swan?

  • We ask that you do not bring more than 4x20L (80L total) of diesel into the event, and that any combined storage does not exceed this amount. Ie you can store multiple people’s diesel together, but it cannot exceed 80L.
  • If you bring more than 20L, please ensure you bring a basic spill kit (absorbent pads, sand and/or kitty litter) and gloves
  • We ask that you regularly check your diesel container(s) over the event’s days to ensure no leaks have occurred. If you have a spill or leak please use your spill kit immediately, or speak to Blazing Swan HQ to use theirs. This will help ensure we are following our principle of Leave No Trace
  • Please report all spills to Blazing Swan at the event HQ
